Resort 2013 Trends: Shades of Pastel

After Fall’s dark aesthetic, Resort 2013 brightens the mood with a playful palette of pastels. Variations of light yellow, pink, sea foam and mauve turned up the fun in the season’s best looks and we’re not talking about just a sprinkle. Designers went head-to-toe with the colors, creating ensembles that often combined a few hues. Accessories and footwear were included in the mix, offering the possibility for a subtle pop of color. Whether you style in monochrome fashion or with just a touch here and there, refresh your wardrobe with pastels this season.

Rachel Zoe illustrates a feminine and girly side with the Karlie pleated shift dress. The sweet number features shutter pleat details on the bodice that flows through the skirt. Embody the ethereal feel by styling the dress with nude heels or flats and minimalist jewelry. Go with a small yet structured bag to complete the look.

When you think of sweaters, you may think of boring black or grey styles but this season, Torn by Ronny Kobo changes that notion with the Katl cable knit sweater in aqua. Twisted cables and textured diamonds detail this cozy inside-out knit. Pair it with a light green colored skirt and white wedges for a vacation – or staycation – look.

Rebecca Minkoff’s Sienna tote in lavender is the handbag for Resort. The supple pastel leather embodies a sophisticated structure and is finished with polished hardware accents on the flap pocket and top line. Pair the handbag with pale colored sandals to engage in the trend.

Flirty feet need Diane von Furstenberg’s Jujette asymmetrical sandals. The slight asymmetry creates a sculpted look on the snake embossed straps. The adjustable buckle makes it easy to wear. Style delicate dresses and skirts with the heels to create a prim and proper aesthetic. Imagine the possibilities!

Yellow limón pants are taking over as the new must-have colored skinny and Alice and Olivia have the best pair. The distressed five-pocket style boasts neon stitching against a smooth, even wash. Channel the Miami theme from the runway and combine the skinnies with a checkered or striped shirt. Keep it unexpected by finishing the look with metallic silver heels.

In the palest yellow, Alice and Olivia present the long-sleeve goddess dress. The delicate overlay of soft, twist-pleated chiffon effortlessly drapes across a figure-hugging silhouette. Round out the sexy dress with a bold color heel and dangling earrings. All eyes will turn on you!

Good things come in small packages, like Rebecca Minkoff’s little Louis Pouch. The small leather case in light blue is perfect for carrying cards and a phone. Oh so simple and stylish. Slip this into your tote to keep your essentials handy.

Rachel Zoe offers a dose of color with the contour belt in coral. The sleek leather belt has extra loops for a smooth fit and small screws accenting the polished buckle. Complement chic white pants with the belt or pair with a printed skirt to bring out the colors. The contour belt will give each a little something extra!
