A Time to Know Thyself…
I sit here sadden by a series of events that have taken place—some by reflecting upon the world, some personal.
What’s happened to acting out of “Good for the sake of good?”
What has happened to our sense of loyalty and moral right?
And the even bigger question, what has happened to our respect for life and acting with unconditional love?
We are all humans living here together on this planet. This was not a conscious choice made by any one of us. It was something that was bestowed upon each of us as individuals. Therefore, isn’t it our responsibility and an honor to be good stewards to our fellow humans, our planet, and most importantly, ourselves? I emphasize ourselves for two reasons:
• One, by being a good steward to the self, one must start at the beginning. An inscription over the entrance of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi reads, “Know Thyself.” This states the first brick to be cemented in the path perfectly. Once you choose to know thyself, there is no going back. The veil of consciousness has been raised and life is viewed in an entirely new way. What was once acceptable may no longer be… Now, life may be lived and seen through the filters of unconditional love and tolerance for not only the self, but also humanity. Thus, ignorance is neither possible nor tolerated.
• Two, by choosing to embark on the journey of “Knowing Thyself,” one is actually choosing their fellow humans and planet as well. Once the veil has been lifted, you can no longer see life not working as a system of interdependence.
The ecosystem all works together. Healthier individuals equal healthier families, children, communities, and hopefully by creating this ripple effect, we’ll have a healthier planet. So you see, it’s our duty and job to be good stewards to ourselves and good to one another.
We are a diverse and beautiful planet. Yes, we may be vastly different people with gaping holes in between our viewpoints, but what if in those holes we have answers/solutions that are desperately needed in the world to make true progress. And what if the reason for not having progress is because too much time and energy is being spent on cleaning up messes we create to inflict pain on another or tending to broken outmoded systems.
I guess I will leave it at this: your truth is your truth. My truth is my truth. Neither one of us will do anything to take that away from the other.
Guess what happens next? We can still happily honor and respect another for sitting on a very different side of the street and make progress in this world in the honor of self, humanity, and good for the sake of good! Whoo hoo to ending conflict and two cheers for moving forward without destruction.
