Beauty Brands Expand Reach through Online Channels

With online distribution gaining momentum there has been some pressure on more exclusive brands to expand their reach.

New members-only sites offering sample sales and other deep discounts are becoming more and more attractive to even some of the bigger labels. Even the sales statistics are supporting the online sales channel over previously touted methods. For instance, in a ‘TV shopping channel spot you can make about $8,000 a minute in a retail sales ad,’ while in an ‘online sale you can make about $50,000 to $60,000 over a two to three day period’. These numbers help to support the value of online distribution and the reach of brands through their use of technology in a way that supports their own target market’s habits!

It seems this economic condition has also supported the online switch, since many savvy customers are becoming much more skeptical of their purchases and are determined more now then ever to get the best value for their money!

“We are thinking about beauty in a very broad way,” said Nadine Iskenderian, Gilt’s divisional merchandise manager.

Some of the member-only sites that have shown up on our radar include: Gilt Groupe, Rue La La, BeautyTicket.com, Market for Drama and The Skinny.
