Biomimicry:  Studying Kangaroos for Possible Anti-Cancer Cream

Skin cancer could be a thing of the past, if the recent study of Kangaroos proves viable.

Utilizing a process, biomimicry, scientists can study nature and mimic its workings to help produce solutions for humans. Well, that’s exactly the case with a recent finding with Kangaroos.

Though, this process is used for a variety of concepts, it has just been recently looked at in connection to skin cancer. It seems the Kangaroos have a ‘DNA repair enzyme’ that helps them to avoid the cancer link and this is being studied for its application for humans.

“Other research teams have proposed a ‘dream cream’ containing the DNA repair enzyme which you could slap on your skin after a day in the sun,” scientist Linda Feketeova said.

A team of researchers at Melbourne University is teaming up with University of Innsbruck in Austria to explore possible prevention opportunities that can be extended from this enzyme.

Thus far, the research looks promising and has presented a number of ‘chemical by-products that have not been seen before.’ The power of nature is incredible and its ability to provide advancements in our own technology is quite fascinating. Definitely LUX-tastic!

We look forward to hearing more about this as research continues, and until then wear your sunscreen as well as a hat! Vitamin D can only be beneficial to an extent.

So LUXies, what do you think of this possible anti-cancer cream?
