Burberry Fall Fashion Show Goes 3D

Everything’s more fun when you’re in the middle of the action—or when it’s coming right at you. This season, Burberry is taking the hint by following the zeitgeist of Sam Worthington’s, Avatar, 3D version and taking a step towards tech by showing their Fall/Winter 2010 collection live in 3D.

The plaid spectacular will be walking the runway on February 23, in the UK while streaming the show live in 3D in New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. The 3D global-cast live stream will be held at specifically staged private events making the Burberry fashion show the first ever of its kind. And to really make you feel like you’re in the UK and in the thick of things, Burberry will be streaming practically everything that will go on at the high-tech event for pre-show entertainment; from the behind the scenes to backstage happenings with the models, and all the action on the red carpet. To make these fashion fêtes possible, the historic LUX wonder teamed up with British broadcasting company, Sky, to utilize their 3D technology in bringing the haute images to the custom screening spaces.

The five fashionable cities Burberry selected to air their labor of love and the posh venues selected to host the 3D event are: New York, Skylight Studios. A Manhattan favorite for runway shows. Paris, the trendy concept-store, Colette. Dubai, The Address. The hotel is in the heart of downtown, boasting the world’s tallest tower and is flanked by the mall of Dubai. Tokyo, La Fabrique will be hosting a very special “Burberry Night” for the event. Los Angeles, due to time differences, this event will not be live. However, this party will be hosted by Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast.

For all who cannot make it to one of these LUX events, the 2D show can be seen live on Burberry’s simulcast site, live.burberry.com where you can also comment and show your love via Facebook and Twitter.

LUX Notes:

Burberry has made huge strides in cementing their place as an integrated media frontrunner. By clearly listening to the now, the British behemoth has brilliantly crafted a platform to allow current brand enthusiasts and future loyalists to interact with their passions in a slick online destination built around the art of personal and visual story telling. With The Art of the Trench and their upcoming live runway global-cast with 3D technology, Burberry seems to really understand what it’s going to take to “lay the brick to Oz” to reach new and existing markets and compete in today’s multi touch-point playground.

It’s great to see historic companies keep fresh with evolution and continue to be industry leaders in driving today’s retail, e-commerce and social experiences forward.
