California Coastal Cleanup Day 2011

California Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, Sept. 17! Coming together in the state's largest volunteer event, about 82,500 volunteers last year removed more than 1.2 million pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes and waterways.

Each year, vast amounts of trash and other debris wind up on our coasts and in our waterways. This waste can be harmful or fatal to marine wildlife, damage our state's economy, and be hazardous to human health. Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, friends, students, service groups and anyone else to come together to restore the beauty of our coast – and have fun!

To find out on how to participate, simply follow these three easy steps. For more information about this event or to learn about other volunteer opportunities, visit the California Coastal Commission.
