CFDA Fashion Award nominees announced

The Council of Fashion Designers of America has selected who will be its nominees and honorees for this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, reported WWD.

Alexander Wang, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs will vie for the title of 2011 Womenswear Designer of the Year. The contest for the Menswear Designer of the Year will be between Michael Bastian, Patrik Ervell and Simon Spurr. One of Reed Krakoff, Alexander Wang and McCollough and Hernandez of Proenza Schouler will be chosen as Accessory Designer of the Year.

Nominees for the Swarovski Award for emerging talent are Joseph Altuzarra, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen and Prabal Gurung for womenswear; Alexander Wang, Philip Lim and Robert Geller for menswear; and Alejandro Ingelmo, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu and Pamela Love for accessories.

Also to be honored are Marc Jacobs, who will receive the 2011 Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award; Lady Gaga, who will take home the Fashion Icon Award; Phoebe Philo for Celine, winner of the International Award; Hilary Alexander of London’s Daily Telegraph, who will be honored with the Eugenia Sheppard Award; and Hal Rubenstein of InStyle, the recipient of the Eleanor Lambert Award.

The winner of the 2011 CFDA Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award is Arthur Elgort, who will be recognized for his contributions to fashion and photography.

Underwritten by Swarovski for the 10th year, the awards ceremony gala will be held on June 6 at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center.
