Coke to Go GREEN
With eco-awareness in full swing, it seems Coca-Cola is following suit with their commitment to replace all current vending machines with ‘green’ versions by 2015.
Over 10 million units are currently functioning in the marketplace and this outdated equipment contributes to about 40% of the company’s carbon footprint in total. This new commitment to move from hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) units will greatly reduce their carbon usage and the aim is that this is just the beginning of many more changes in the food and beverage industry.
“Our hope is that our initial investments will trigger adoption by other companies in the food and beverage industry,” Kent said in a conference call with reporters. –says reuters.com
Coca-Cola continues to purchase new ‘green’ vending machines each year, but the costs of these new climate friendly versions are not as budget-friendly. If this growing trend to new green technology continues, this momentum will help reduce the manufacturing costs and allow many more companies to follow suit.
The exciting news is that when this process is complete, it’ll be the equivalent of taking 11 million cars off of the road and will ‘cut the emissions by nearly 53 million metric tons.’ What a powerful impact going green has on our environment and we’re happy to see Coca-Cola being a leader in this area.
So LUXies, how can you support more green technology through your purchasing power? What do you think of this green commitment by one of the leading beverage producers?
