Copenhagen Fashion Week to bounce back

The Denmark fashion community anticipates that Copenhagen Fashion Week, despite some troubled years, will make a comeback this year.

“There’s a strong sense of realism in the industry today. The companies have realized that consumption in general, and luxury consumption in particular, has now established itself at a new and slightly lower level,” Eva Kruse, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, told WWD.

While economic woes plagued the medium-sized enterprises, the new designer outfits were able to cope better. In fact, research is showing that the more imaginative companies have fared rather well.

“The companies that have done well are those that have actively used innovative methods to develop in all spheres,” Mogens Dilling-Hansen, co-author of a recent study of the Danish industry, said.

The bottom line, instead of catchy designs, is becoming more and more important, which should give the industry a real boost. This new attitude will definitely be displayed at the approaching Copenhagen Fashion Week.

“Many players have adapted to the new situation by limiting the number of styles in each collection, while also fine-tuning the pricing of their collections,” Kruse stated.

The combined Copenhagen Fashion Week events are expected to draw crowds close to levels seen before the economic downturn, enticing around 65,000 visitors.

“It’s not extremely advanced designs, nor high-end pricing, but you get a lot of original design for your money,” Kruse maintained.
