Donna Karen Gathers Support to Rebuild Haiti
Just this week, the innovative designer Donna Karen, her Urban Zen Foundation, music executive Andrew Harrell, André Balazs, Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Woman Now gathered to raise funds and means to support the re-building of Haiti.
The ‘Hope Help & Relief’ campaign is a collaborative effort of many great influences in fashion, music and other industries to help rebuild a better tomorrow for Haiti. It’s the coming together to make a difference that really made this campaign catch our attention—what a fabulous example of our “Good for the Sake of Good” philosophy in action.
“Hope, Help & Relief Haiti’s mission is to create a conscious community of leaders in music, fashion, film, finance and art to become agents of change for the renewal of Haiti.” –Donna Karen, Urban Zen Foundation site
By working together, they’ve partnered with many great organizations to focus their efforts in providing much needed shelter to those suffering from the disaster.
Through ‘shelter boxes,’ they‘ve found a way to not only provide tents for temporary living, but the boxes also come equipped with a water purification system, sheets, bedding and a small stove to cook. These temporary shelter aides also act as tents that can sleep up to 10, so it’s perfect for families with children. The ‘shelter boxes’ are about a $1,000 investment each, and they’re invaluable to the people of Haiti.
“First we have a dream. My dream is saving lives and rebuilding Haiti.
Next, there’s manifesting that dream— which takes a community of caring people—you, me, our friends and partners. At Urban Zen, we can offer a safe space, a working space, a space for partnering with the people and finding the solutions that can rebuild Haiti, while preserving its indigenous culture. Let’s come together and dedicate ourselves to this task and to the people of Haiti. Right now, there’s a disaster that must be addressed. But the aftermaths of this disaster will be around for years to come.”—-via Donna Karen, Urban Zen Foundation site
To help bring even more awareness through fashion, a dedicated T-shirt has been created by Donna Karen and Edun, proceeds are donated to help raise funds for the shelter boxes.
As you can see, there are many ways you can help and get involved. So if you feel called to learn more and be a part of making a difference, visit Urban Zen Foundation. Through this website you can buy a T-shirt, or simply donate directly with $50, $100, $500 or purchase a Shelter Box for $1,000.
