Fall 2011: Diane von Furstenburg

Diane von Furstenburg showed off her Fall 2011 collection in New York City on Sunday with a modern, glam take on her vintage-inspired fashions.

Von Furstenburg kicked off the show with her signature style: the wrap dress. With the monochromatic chevron print and ‘70s vibe, it wasn’t a far cry from von Furstenburg’s iconic style.

She reinvented the style, however, in multiple looks during the show, with sexy sequin evening wear and bold, printed day dresses.

Unlike the streets of New York, where the fashion elite seem to drown in black, von Furstenburg’s collection featured vibrant shades of blue, turquoise and red. Oversized glasses and hats made the collection feel like a stroll through an eclectic European city, perhaps the streets of Berlin or Copenhagen, where women aren’t afraid to stand out.

The New York icon wasn’t afraid to take a couple of risks for the Fall season, mixing prints, such as a frock with large gold hearts paired with bag of a different hue. Polka dots were all the rage, featured on coats, separates and dresses. Geometric prints, a favorite pattern for the designer, dominated silk tunics and fun jumpers.

Sequins and metallics gave her collection a touch of glamour. The sexiness wasn’t spared, with numerous slits, whether in a neckline or at the hem, showing how to display some skin during the colder months.
