Fall 2012 trends: handheld handbags

Across the runways of Fall 2012, the handheld handbag was back with a vengeance after seasons of crossbodies and totes stealing the spotlight. Styles of doctor’s bags, elongated bowling bags and speedys put forth a ladylike attitude with a strong sense of confidence. Structure was key in this season of essentialism and constructed looks as silhouettes were powerful yet simplistic all at once. Supple colored leathers, wild exotics and unique materials added lux to the trend without the use of over embellishment. The season’s must-have bag offers a classy update to layered looks.

Reed Krakoff goes bold with vivid fuchsia for its ladylike handbag. The chic outline boxer bag is a must-have classic complete with fun buckles. Play up the color by combining with the season’s favorites of oxblood, navy or purple, or go monochrome gray to let the color standout.

MCM is prim and polished with the first lady croco handheld in emerald green. The croc-embossed leather is crafted into a classic up-town design. Infuse elegance into smart collared blouse and pencil skirt looks.

Marc by Marc Jacobs presents the Thunderdome travel doctor bag in licorice black. The handbag is inspired by vintage doctor bags and crafted in pebbled leather. The framed style adds uniqueness to preppy ensembles and blouse attires.

Dark cabernet haircalf lends opulence to Juicy Couture’s Steffy satchel. The solid rectangular shape is accented with silver hardware and a leopard charm. Work the handheld handbag with outfits of long cardigans teamed up with leggings and scarves.

Furla gives the speedy shape bag a playful twist with a rubber material. The Candy satchel is adorned with top zipper closures and the brand’s signature padlock. Make the rubber bag an every day option to combine with floral print pants, leather looks or casual t-shirt ensembles.

In a brilliant ion white, Alexander Wang’s Pelican satchel is pure sophistication. The brushed gold hardware offsets the rich leather in the rounded silhouette. Pair the bag with layers of dark winter shades to illustrate a contradiction or match with metallic dresses.

Yves Saint Laurent shows off the Cabas ChYc in a lizard-embossed ombre calfskin bag. The lavish zip top style is timeless with gold hardware pairing with the purple exotic skin. Complete workwear power suits with the bag or contrast with simple everyday denim looks.

See by Chloe’s April duffel bag can carry all your daily essentials and more. The constructed piece is robust with piping and pebbled leather. The navy option makes for a cool substitute to black. Style with your favorite chubby knits and long coats to embrace the Fall.
