Fashion Week style: The Glam Factor

Although the real attention is on the catwalk, it doesn’t hurt to turn some heads during fashion week. Metallics have quickly become the new neutral, an easy substitute for your go-to black dress. Last week LadyLux posted an edgy look for the runway shows and this week we offer a more glitzy alternative.

This asymmetrical dress by Ports 1961 is hard to miss. The silk lamé is in a interesting shade of rosemary. Yep, it’s not silver and it’s not gold: it’s green. Isn’t that the perfect metallic for fall? The draped look is the perfect fit after summer. It’s nice to remain cool and show off some of that St. Tropez tan, but at the same time New York in September isn’t necessarily predictable when it comes to weather.

It could easily be paired with silver or gold accessories but we’ve gone the gold route for one reason—we wanted to include a subtle homage to Alexander McQueen (as we did in edgy). Although his accessories can’t be worn with everything, these two posts show the versatility of his pieces, giving a little edge to a flirty outfit. The studded clutch by the late designer shows off his iconic skull motif, with gemstone eyes and gold-tone stitching. If you need something to talk about at NYFW, just show someone this clutch.

A tone of black, corresponding with the clutch, is carried through a couple of the accessories. Since the dress and bag make a statement, it’s good to tone down your jewelry. However, that doesn’t mean go bare! This bracelet by Carol Marie offers a little funk with the chain link but still remains subdued, stepping back from the spotlight. A big cocktail ring is a good way to go when the dress can’t handle a bold neck piece. Since the dress is wide-necked and there’s no reason to obstruct it, show off some bling on your hands with this art-deco ring by Kenneth Jay Lane. Simple drop earrings, like these from Alexis Bittar, can put the whole outfit together. The accessories don’t tap out the sparkle but instead play up the metallic focal point: the dress.

Finally, there are your feet. Can’t forget those. These platforms heels by Casadei give a touch of ‘70s, retro glamour. Close to 6-inches tall, this glam outfit will be hard to miss at NYFW.
