First Tumblr store, Of a Kind, promotes emerging designers
The first-ever Tumblr store debuted Wednesday. Using its new position on the site to show off its exclusive, limited editions pieces, Of a Kind, an “art gallery for emerging designers,” has taken a big step in reaching the online artistic community through becoming part of Tumblr’s blogging platform.
“The idea is to promote emerging fashion designers through e-commerce and editorial content,” chief executive officer and co-founder Claire Mazur told WWD.
Tumblr, a visual blogging platform, is making waves as the spot to find edgy or different visual content from the creative world. With about 47 million visitors a month, the site claims to allow you to share anything with ease: text, photos, quotes, links, music and videos – including info from the world of fashion.
Of a Kind strives to promote promising designers by making available their unique collections, plus the stories behind it. The site will limit itself to one on-the-rise designer per week and will boast attainable selections: Prices are between $50 to $500 a pop. The first to be launched are designers Mandy Coon, Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, Dusen Dusen and Symmetry Goods. Their goal is to start with accessories and eventually branch out into clothing.
“We really know these designers and want you to feel like you love them,” Mazur said.
