GreenStreamline.com Offers Range of Eco Items

Green shopping destination GreenStreamline.com was created out of a disappointing shopping adventure. Its two founders, Cambridge natives Sarah Kuhn and Katie Shetterly, had just graduated from college and – with recent paychecks in hand – were looking to set up their new apartment. But they didn’t want any old junk. They wanted high quality, environmentally friendly items with “cool stories behind them.”

This proved to be easier said than done. Taking their search online, the two women frustratedly hopped from website to website, trying to sift through the endless listings to find something eco-conscious and socially responsible. “We realized that there was no organized, efficient marketplace for producers of eco-friendly products to connect with conscious consumers. We started GreenStreamline to address this problem,” the two women declared.

“Everybody knows about the threats posed to the planet by man-made global warming. There are a lot of companies out there making it worse or doing nothing to better the planet. But there are also a growing number of companies coming up with innovative ways to produce high-quality products that are better for the planet and communities around the world. We created GreenStreamline to be a platform for these eco-focused and socially conscious companies, enabling them to reach a wide audience of conscious consumers. Consumers are also looking for products that are eco-conscious and a have a story behind them so GreenStreamline works to introduce them to vendors whose products are aligned with their values,” Kuhn and Shetterly said.

From sustainable bamboo sunglasses to eco-friendly sneakers, handmade vegan soap and a recycled coin ring, the e-commerce site appears to have met its goal. Offering style along with the conscience, the online store boasts every kind of green product imaginable: jewelry and other accessories; clothing; beauty and bath products; food and drink; home, furniture and garden; health and fitness; kids; pets; and more.

“Our customers are from all over the map, both literally and figuratively,” the duo explained. “We have made a conscious effort to recruit sellers from all over the world, and as a result, many of our customers are international as well … Our members are united by the fact that they are interested in taking an active role in their shopping experience. By that we mean they want to ask questions and figure out where the products they buy are made, what’s in them, who made them, and what it really means to own them.”

A one-stop online mecca for eco-minded shoppers, the site permits consumers to research, peruse and shop thousands of unique, socially responsible, beautiful items. GreenStreamline chooses only those suppliers who have sustainable values; products are fair trade, upcycled, organic and/or eco-friendly – and only those items that meet the criteria for being stylish.

“Growing up in Cambridge, Mass., we were surrounded by people who were eco-conscious and made purchase decisions with the environment in mind, which was a lot of the inspiration for GreenStreamline. With this being said, GreenStreamline is not a nonprofit organization; we are a company committed to the idea that making a profit does not mean compromising our values. We carefully select sellers on the site with strong eco and social missions, but who also have cool products that we believe people will want to buy,” the two founders maintained.
