How to do it: Four different ways to detox

A lot of talk has been had around cleansing the last decade or so, and if you’re not an expert in the art of well-being, choosing a program that’s right for you can be the most difficult part of the journey to self.

Recently we wrote an article on reasons to cleanse. Cleansing can be a great way to boost your energy, clean out harmful toxins, lose weight and reset your mind. If you’ve decided that this is the right path for you to integrate into your lifestyle, next you need to consider which detox regime is best for you. Here are four different cleansing options to consider.

NEKTER JUICE CLEANSE

Nekter offers a series of vegetable and fruit juices designed to detox the body and reboot your system by pumping nutrients from fresh produce into the body.

“Our juice cleanse is a way of detoxing your body but not depriving it of nutrients and vitamins,” Katie Watson, a store manager at Nekter in Costa Mesa, Calif., said. “So it completely detoxes your whole body and without having to starve or do anything like that.”

The company offers a variety of lengths to choose from: one-, two-, three- and five- day cleanses. In the three-day cleanse, you intake six drinks a day, each 16 ounces. Over the course of just a few days, you drink 45 pounds of fruits and vegetables, more than an average person eats in an entire year, says Watson.

Each of the 100-percent organic, cold-pressed juices are different, and each focuses on a different organ, with ingredients designed to cleanse.

The drinks include three veggie-based green drinks, one coconut water, one cashew nut milk with agave nectar and the last lemonade with cayenne and agave, leading Watson to claim the diet does not get monotonous.

“It’s a great way to jumpstart your system,” Watson said. “You’re able to restart and have a completely clean system.”

A three-day cleanse is usually $190, but will be $150 till the end of March; a five-day is $300; a one-day is $65; and a two-day is $130. Visit www.nekterjuicebar.com for more information.

118 DEGREES RAW FOOD CLEANSE

The idea behind the 118 Degrees’ cleanse is raw, vegan meals that get your body off processed food and all the chemicals that can be found in food, allowing the body to purge toxins.

Their program provides all the food you need for a week: seven days of breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert, all made with natural, plant-based living foods. Options include Heirloom Squash Samosa and Marinated Kale Salad, Pesto Tortellini and Raspberry Torte.

They also offer a 30-day, more intensive cleansing program, which combines raw food, juices and herbs to cleanse at a deeper level. This cleanse is not just a diet change, but incorporates healing oils and aromatherapy, your choice of a colonic or blood test, and a coach to support you when you run into roadblocks.

“(The goal) is to take people away from that standard American diet for a week and allow the body a break from all the things in there wreaking havoc and allow the body to release some of that stuff out there in the bloodstream,” Jenny Ross, owner of 118 Degrees raw restaurant in Costa Mesa, Calif., said, “and get them out of the system so the system can function at a higher level.”

She claims the program is a healthy, fun way to gain a better mental state and a better understanding of real food.

“It’s like having a gourmet chef in your kitchen,” Ross said, “For most people, it is an exploration into a plant-based diet and living cuisine.”

The seven-day cleanse is $210 and the 30-day program is $718. Visit www.118degrees.com for more information.

MINERALIZED MUD PACKS FROM SEEDS OF LIFE DETOX CENTER

Perhaps you don’t want to fiddle with what you eat. Mud packs could be for you. In this cleanse, mineralized mud packs are applied to the surface of the tissues to draw toxins out of the body’s organs and glands. Not only does it detox, it can rejuvenate and restore energy.

Used for centuries by various indigenous cultures, these anti-inflammatory packs include clay formulated with herbs, roots, seeds and plants. After the clinician determines which areas are weak, the clay is applied for five to 10 minutes, bringing nutrients and botanical complexes specific to that organ.

“All these detox remedies can truly disinfect the bacteria that the weak site is harboring,” Shawn Tene, clinical nutritionist at Seeds of Life Detox Center in Corona Del Mar, Calif., said. “Any injury, any trauma, any abnormality of the body can be treated with this clay. We can restore integrity. We can restore the tissue back to its rightful heritage.”

The mud packs were developed by Dr. Robert Marshall, PhD, CCN, who scoured the world looking for purest, quality roots and herbs. The ingredients include premium-grade, unheated volcanic clay (Rhyolitic Tuff Breccia), Indian asphaltum (Shilahit), unheated kaolin clay, zeolite minerals (Laumontite), peat magma (Carbon-Matrix Humate) and whole broken cell wall chlorella (Vulgaris).

The whole session takes one to three hours and the price is $199 for three hours of mud packs. For more information, call 949.673.4222 or email (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address); a website is in progress.

SONNE COLON CLEANSE FROM TOTAL HEALTH MASTERY

Colon cleanses can be very effective as plaque, nonorganic matter and undigested food build up in the colon, preventing nutrients from being absorbed in the digestive system.

Arnoux Goran of Total Health Mastery recommends the Sonne cleanse, which he says removes 5 to 10 feet of mucoid plaque in its most effective stages. For those of you who don’t know, Goran says mucoid plaque is hardened mucus lining the intestines that, according to Dr. Richard Anderson, “is as hard as a car tire” and doesn’t come out with healthy eating or regular fasting.

The cleanse is based on a raw food diet of fresh fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, but takes it to the next level, with shakes, pills and powders designed to sweep this built-up plaque out of the system—and a great deal of toxins with it.

During a quality intestinal cleanse, a shake made of an absorbent such as bentonite clay and fiber, often psyllium husk fiber, will be ingested and move through the intestines acting as a sponge, soaking up everything in its path. Toxins are then eliminated through the colon.

“(You can) get as much out as fast as possible, creating the most amazing health results imaginable without any reactions, suffering, or time off work, while spending very little money,” Goran said.

One Sonne cleansing kit is $58. For more information about seminars on cleansing and to receive $50 off for LadyLUX readers, visit thmastery.com. For more information about the Sonne cleanse or to purchase a kit, visit Total Health Mastery’s product page.

In conclusion, whatever cleanse you choose, the benefits will likely be incredible. Cleansing can reprogram your whole system to give you a new lease on life. So get on the Web and get moving. Just be sure to talk to your healthcare advisor beforehand.

One note of caution: Educate yourself. Be careful of jumping in without knowing what you are doing. Goran cautions against cleansing without arming yourself with knowledge.

“That’s like trying to take apart and put back together a computer without having the know-how,” Goran said. Far too many people, he says, make mistakes while cleansing because they are not educated. They can feel frustrated and give up, not understanding what they did wrong. Don’t let this happen to you.
