Judith Leiber offers more affordably priced line

Judith Leiber is branching out into new territory: lower prices. Her new line, Overture by Judith Leiber, features 15 different pieces, all priced from $200 to $700. Produced in partnership with Accessory Network Group, the collection will be available in luxury department stores as well as Judith Leiber boutiques.

“We see this really as a broadening of a customer base, not only [via] price point, but in trend and look,” Mary Gleason, Judith Leiber Brand president, told WWD.

The handbags pop in jewel tones such as blue and purple, boasting metallics, leopard prints, encrusted crystals, delicate studs and geometrics.

Gleason said the line is in response to the current economic reality: Many cannot swallow the $1,500 to $12,000 price tag of Leiber’s other collections. This is particularly true of the younger generation, who grew up with mothers carrying Judith Leiber bags and developed an appreciation for the brand - but not the price.

“This is all about expanding the horizons of Judith Leiber and enabling a wider audience to be able to own a piece of Judith Leiber,” Abe Chehebar, chief executive officer of Accessory Network Group, said to WWD.

Overture shoes and belts in the future may be on the way, Gleason noted.
