L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival: Ellery

Some people are simply born for fashion. From Perth, Western Australia and born into a creative household, Kym Ellery is one of them. She grew up in her mother’s art world that encompassed textiles, printmaking and ceramics. With her mother’s creativity in her blood, Ellery not only completed a certificate in Fashion Design at Perth University, but also attended the highly acclaimed Central St. Martins fashion school in London. After graduating, Ellery worked at Russh magazine as a vital member of the creative team, helping it grow into one of the most cutting edge and renowned fashion titles in Australia. Since leaving the magazine, she has launched her Ellery collection that displays her keen eye and avant-garde style in women’s apparel.

Ellery’s latest collection was presented at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and boasted brilliant black and gold ensembles with touches of nude to keep it grounded. The silhouettes were fitted on top and paired with flowing skirts and wide leg pants for balance. Starting off casually, snug sleeveless cropped tops were combined with maxi skirts featuring thigh-high slits. Peplum tops emerged with belts to cinch the waist and found playfulness with the long maxis.

The designer continued to dazzle with more formal looks of gold dresses that provided a level of modernity. In a bell shape, her minidresses were structured and pronounced. The metallic gold was also found in a relaxed knee-length dress and an evening look featuring a peplum silhouette.

Contrasting the mood of gold, black dresses and gowns felt polished and refined. Ellery crafted a gorgeous sleeveless collared shirtdress that nearly skimmed the runway and was cinched at the waist with skinny monochrome belts. Her stunner was a strapless evening gown complete with a sweetheart neckline, thigh-high slit and graceful train that could clearly be an option for any red-carpet opportunity.

Ellery’s collection is easily wearable yet embodies a certain chicness that only some could appreciate. It is no wonder that Ellery is on every fashionista’s “brands to watch” list.
