LUX Look: Haute Heads

Some say good looks can go to your head and designers decided to go literal with the beauty maxim. Hair-raising ‘dos hit the catwalk, from neon dyes to spiky sticks, these three fashion houses redefined the laws of attraction with these three kooky looks.

Manish Arora
It used to be common knowledge that a belt matched your shoes or your handbag, Manish Arora took coordination to a whole new level by matching up headdresses with the manically embroidered and meticulously detailed dresses. As if transported to a faraway planet, the futuristic barbies put onlookers in a fashion-induced trance.

Gaspard Yurkievich
Stealing a cue from the Native Americans, this monochromatic designer spiced up his grey runway looks with ginger topped models and orange makeup. The boppy hair-dos were accented with long feathers, which hung around the shoulder, proposing an avant-garde take on the typical ponytail.

Bernhard Willhelm
As a child, it could be assumed that Willhelm was the angsty toddler, nervously coloring outside the lines. Never subscribing to the status quo, the designer presented his Fall 2010 collection in a gallery-like environment. Instead of strutting the catwalk, models posed in various situations – from pouring tea to dusting the floor – while onlookers admired them as living art. Who couldn’t be stirred by this spiky look?
