LUX Love: Burberry Prorsum

Since Christopher Bailey became chief creative director of Burberry in 2009, he has transformed and taken Burberry to a whole new level beyond plaid. He has created cutting-edge collections for Burberry Prorsum and for this upcoming season, he doesn’t disappoint.

Burberry Prorsum is always about fabulous outerwear. So for Fall 2010, Bailey took the military and aviator themes and flew with it. He created aviator-inspired jackets from cropped to long lengths, detailed with cozy shearling lining and trims, rugged leather straps and stitching. The jackets boasted exaggerated collars and were shown in a palette of olives, creams, and blacks to keep in stride with the military. Bailey’s military inspired pieces created chic female generals in button-detailed coats and an emphasis on distinctive collars. He also created convertible coats that can go from long to cropped with the pull of a zipper.

The themes were taken from outwear straight into footwear. Aviator themed mid-height boots and over-the-ankle booties were shown in leather with a myriad of straps, shearling lining and wide, slouchy openings. Thigh-high boots in leathers and black and taupe snakeskins complemented the military coats.

The masculine vibed collection is another blockbuster for Bailey as he turns the trends toward rugged casualness.
