LUX vs. Steal: fur coats and jackets

As the days get cooler, coats are always the obvious option to keep warm but sometimes, fur can be more fun. Fur coats and jackets can lux up any ensemble and are more versatile than imaginable, especially in neutral shades. This season, though, the animal hair material gets elevated with colors such as oxblood red for a fresh twist. Silhouettes range from chubby styles to long options to sleeveless versions, each with a different type of short or shaggy texture. Add a little fur to your wardrobe with one of these lux or steal pieces!

Kymerah makes a statement with the Carmen starling jacket in super-soft tip-dyed fox fur. The boxy cut is slightly oversized with a glamorous fold-over collar. Layer the cozy piece over brightly colored blouses and wide-leg trousers for a glam throwback look. Sub in Mango’s faux fur jacket in grey to get the look for less.

In gorgeous grey and tan rabbit fur, Helmut Lang sets the bar for fur outerwear. The natural fur jacket blends grey and beige throughout the long-sleeve silhouette with an oversized collar. Combine the jacket with berry colored pants for a cool contrast. For an option that’s a steal, Alice and Olivia’s Leana faux fur jacket features a tactile texture and shawl collar.

525 America goes soft with a winter white dyed rabbit fur vest. The white, grey and tan combination makes it easy to pair with dark or light colors and can be belted at the waist with a leather sash. Combine the sleeveless outerwear with simple long-sleeved shirts to mix casual and dressy. Steal the look with Free People’s call of the wild reversible faux fur vest in the natural color.

Versus displays a lavish look with the burgundy fur overcoat. The long-sleeved genuine lamb hair coat has an oversize hood and tonal leather trimmings. Let the coat speak for itself and pair it with simple ensembles of black tights or leather pants. For a burgundy alternative, Nanette Lepore’s mystical fur coat is luxurious and sleek.

Veda changes up the traditional fur jacket with contrasting leather sleeves. The plush rabbit fur has a downtown feel in black and is complete with a shawl collar. Replace the usual blazer with this fur and leather piece this season. For an equally chic look, Rachel Zoe’s Brooklyn faux fur coat has a simple silhouette that compliments the longhaired style.

There’s something so glamorous about a white shaggy fur coat and Theory has just the one. The three-quartered length sleeve style boasts arctic fox from Finland and hits just at the thigh. Style the outerwear with monochrome ensembles or with patterns and textures for mixed media fun. For a fraction of the price, create the same look with Rachel Zoe’s Petra faux-fur coat in an elongated silhouette.
