MAC Partners with Milk Studios to Sponsor a Venue for New York Fashion Week
It seems MAC Cosmetics has decided to join forces with MILK Studios to host their own event during New York Fashion Week!! This is definitely a first the for the beauty company who’s been a regular sponsor under GLAM packed white tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for the last five years.
According to a MAC statement, the partnership with Milk Studios also is seen as a way “to inspire new ways of presenting and showing collections in a unique environment, fostering the evolution of fashion week in New York.”
This new venue will offer select LUX designers the opportunity to stage runway shows, presentations, special events and other services typical to the New York Fashion Week fêtes all for FREE!! How LUX-tastic is this for the fashion designers wanting to be seen but are playing it safe and conservative during these shaky economic times.
Some of the confirmed invited talent includes: Proenza Schouler, Alesander Wang, Peter Som, Threeasfour, Vena Cava Adam Lippes, Altuzzara, Band of Outsiders, Barbar Tfank, Costello Tagliapietra, Erin Fetherston, Pamela Love, Preen and Temperley London—although the list could grow up to over 30 designers!!
Some speculate that this could be in direct competition with IMG Fashion, producers of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Although, none of the designers enlisted have previously shown at the famed Bryant Park tents.
“We are not looking to create a parallel universe,” Demsey said Wednesday. “We are looking to create an editorially relevant fashion venue. [The Council of Fashion Designers of America] was fully in support of it. We thought it was a good thing because a lot of the designers are not showing in tents to begin with. The ability to consolidate those activities in an amazing creative space with amazing photographic and digital capabilities and sound systems makes the week more rationalized and more organized.”
To minimize scheduling conflicts and promote celebrating what this week is really all about, the designers and their wears, the two companies are planning to coordinate shuttles between MILK Studios and Bryant Park to accommodate this need.
LUX Fashionistas, we loving hearing from you!! Do you like the idea of offering an alternative location for the designers to showcase their work during fashion week? Do you believe this is competition for IMG? And lastly, how do you feel about having to trot about to two locations to see your FAV LUX designers showcase their GENIUS?!?
SEE YOU AT THE SHOWS!!
