MAGIC delivered a buzzworthy show filled with celebrity and blogger appearances

WWDMAGIC is one of the biggest tradeshows in the industry and also quite possibly one of the most entertaining. This year, the show ran from Feb. 12 to 15 in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay and the Las Vegas Convention Center, encompassing the shows PLATFORM, Project, Pool, S.L.A.T.E, Street and more.

Over the past few years, the show has continually grown in attendance and number of events, fashion shows, show divisions, personal appearances by celebrities and bloggers, and social media efforts. This ramping up has created a whole new show experience for MAGIC attendees. According to Chris DeMoulin, the International president of MAGIC and the executive vice president of Advanstar’s Fashion Group, attendance was up from last year’s and the February show featured approximately 1,400 new exhibitors.

Making an appearance on Valentine’s Day, Betsey Johnson stopped by the tradeshow to preview her Fall collection and visit her loyal fans. But the whimsical designer wasn’t the only exciting star. An army of bloggers was present in Las Vegas for the affair.

Showing up to share tips, new brands and trends in the Teen Vogue Blogger Lounge were a few of the industry’s most savvy bloggers, including The Curvy Fashionista, FashionIndie, Styleline, Wendy’s Look Book, Fab Fit Fun and Fashion Bomb Daily. Alongside the Teen Vogue Lounge, the DIY Lounge hosted opportunities for attendees to create their own DIY products, such as leather wallets, bracelets and earrings.

Over in S.L.A.T.E, lifestyle and fashion journalist Marcus Toy curated the blogger lounge with the hottest streetwear voices from around the world, posting news and events live from the show floor. A host of editors from High Snobiety, Nice Kicks, Freshness Mag, C to the JL and Karmaloop TV were available for meet-and-greets. And Charlotte Smith, author of “Dreaming of Chanel,” autographed books next to an amazing Chanel installation.

The heavy presence of bloggers at the show began a few seasons ago and has caused an energizing buzz about the tradeshow, making it not only a desirable event to attend but also an affair that helps the vendors.

“The bloggers bring in both an editorial and consumer perspective. They have been able to translate the show into something that is interesting to the public and are able to offer insight, from show happenings to industry trends, 365 days a year,” DeMoulin said to LadyLUX.

MAGIC attendees were invited to view new trends that were showcased during the daily fashion shows. The presentations featured the freshest ideas from exhibiting brands.

February’s show may be over, but attendees can look forward to the next one from Aug. 20 to 23.

DeMoulin promised, “You can expect the same excitement to surround the show and for us to bring it to the next level! There will be more brands, more innovative activities and events, and always (will be) bigger and better than the last.”
