Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week announces new designers

Mercedes-Benz has announced the new designers it’ll be adding to its Fashion Week lineup for Fall 2011 in New York City. The week will have 16 new designers, hailing from Long Island to Latin America, who will be presenting for the first time in a couple of weeks.

The list includes Allegri, an outerwear and rainwear brand; Callulla Lillibelle, which is aimed at women that like style and comfort; and Porter Gray, a label that designs for “relaxed sophistication.”

There are some familiar names as well, such as G-Star Raw. Pierre Morisset, the label’s designer, is considered one of the most important people working in denim.

Christian Cota, a Parisian new to the New York runway, refers to his mother and grandmother as his muses. A couple of other designers call another continent home. Son Jung Wan hails from Korea and is a well-known name in her native country, grossing $34 million in 2009. Georgian designer Irina Shabayeva has an A-list clientele. You may remember her from the sixth season of “Project Runway.”

Other designers that will make their New York Fashion Week debut are Tess Giberson, VACCA, Sachin + Babi, Frank Tell, Maisonette 1977, Joy Cioci and LUBLU Kira Plastinina.
