Mercedes-Benz launches Community Stars challenge for grassroots charities
To mark the 125th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz and the invention of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz dealers have launched a social media contest to recognize local community service groups. Dealers are donating $125,000 total to deserving, smaller-scale charitable organizations throughout the United States via a “Community Stars” campaign.
Community Stars is designed to shed light on smaller charities and nonprofit organizations whose efforts are often overshadowed by big-name, multinational organizations.
On the Mercedes-Benz USA Facebook page is a “Community Stars” tab through which organizations can connect with this opportunity. Each interested grassroots organization is challenged to create and upload a 60-second video to present its charity and exactly how it would use the awarded funds to keep its cause alive.
Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. EST. Every organization must list under one category: Environment & Sustainability, Health & Service, Youth Empowerment, Music & Arts or Education. A committee of Mercedes-Benz employees will select 15 finalists. MBUSA Facebook fans are encouraged to choose their favorite of the 15 finalists and vote between Oct. 3 and Oct. 21, when the contest officially ends. Five grand prize winners will be announced on Oct. 25. Winners will receive $25,000 to fund their cause.
