Met Ball Fashion Retrospective: The Designer & Their Muse
Each year, style magazines and industry experts look forward to fashion's best red carpet event, The Costume Institute Gala, known as the Met Ball. For the past decade, the gala has served as a stage for top designers to display their latest creations on some of the most beautiful women in the entertainment industry. LadyLUX takes a quick retrospective on these brilliant duets.
Supermodel Karolina Korkova caught everyone's attention in this stunning rose gold gown by Rachel Zoe. For her very first red carpet creation, Zoe wanted to pay pay homage to Italian fashion designer Schiaparelli and Muicca Prada. The sparkling gown featured long sleeves and a full length skirt, a low scoop back and a belt which pulled the dress in at the waist.
In 2011, the always-beautiful Blake Lively was escorted by fashion king, Karl Lagerfeld, who dressed his muse in a gorgeous sari-style draped silver dress. The pair went on to work on more fashion collaborations, with Lively serving as the face of Chanel's Mademoiselle campaign.
One of the more unique gowns to hit the gala's red carpet was a Zac Posen creation, modeled on actress, Christina Ricci. Capturing the spirit of a McQueen ensemble, the gothic dress featured strategic cutouts and a magnificent train.
In 2009, Kate Moss and Marc Jacobs played host and hostess as the Met Ball so it was only fitting that the supermodel wear one of his designs. Moss looked simply divine in Jacobs' gold lame one shoulder dress with a matching turban.
Fashion pals, Sarah Jessica Parker and Alexander McQeen stole those show back in 2006, showing up matching red plaid. Parker's one-shoulder dress was an irresistible gothic tone of black lace and belted tartan that could only be mastered by the great McQueen
Cameron Diaz dazzled in a glittering gown by friend and designer Stella McCartney. This champagne dress was made from organic silk and adorned with thousands of beautiful glass beads and crystal chain.
Diane Kruger was a vision in this Jason Wu couture gown. The goddess-like gown featured impeccable beading on the sheer nude top, and a seductive thigh-high slit on the black skirt.
