Milan Fashion Week: Philipp Plein and Roberto Cavalli S/S 14

Fashion icons were on the runways this weekend in Milan, with a range of strong, sexy looks making headway for the S/S 14 season. Here's what was trending at Roberto Cavalli and Philipp Plein.

Roberto Cavalli S/S 14

Roberto Cavalli is known for sexy, but for his S/S 14 collection, he opted for more than just sex appeal. Think red-carpet ready Old Hollywood gowns with glam fur stoles, flapper girl fringe, low slung capris and pastels done right, and you’ve got a good idea about Cavalli’s spring lineup. Plenty of tough girl vibe was present in the form of repurposed biker jackets paired with studded, low-slung capris, while second-skin bias-cut dresses featured ombre shading, beading and strategic peek-a-boo lace cutouts. Art Deco caftans, skinny jeans and goddess columns were center stage in a show that is sure to be a blockbuster next spring.

Philipp Plein S/S 14

Attention-getting clothes were the key to Philipp Plein’s runway collection. In a season full of lace-look prints, this designer went for the real thing – tight lace jeans that were actually made of sheer lace for a super sexy vibe. And to emphasize the point that clothes are meant to provoke, the F-word was printed in triplicate on the bodice one glam crystal-embroidered gown. The season’s ubitquitious biker jacket was present, in both black and metallic leather forms, including a couple in studded baby blue and hot pink. Overall, there was a sporty feel to several pieces, with a sexy edge that means the Plein girl is a force to be reckoned with.
