Move Over iPhone, Google to Launch New Smartphone

Calling all LUX-tech savvy, you’ll soon have another tempting phone option produced by our FAV search engine, Google.

This new gadget, Nexus One, is said to compete with the popular iPhone. Some early specs indicate that it’ll be much lighter in size and combines features of the blackberry with other popular must-haves of the iPhone. It’ll have a touch screen and two microphones along with a great camera feature.

The techies mention that the design of this new phone is ‘unlocked,’ which allows for Google to have complete design control over hardware and software of the phone. This alone makes it quite intriguing to see the final result. As of now, there’s no phone on the market that can say the same thing, giving the Google phone quite an advantage.

Expected to launch in early Jan 2010, they’re currently having employees test out the usability of the phone and report back their own experiences to improve on any features and functions. Talk about a major perk of the job!

According to Google Mobile Blog: ‘We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.’

Though, Verizon users beware, it seems Verizon has denied the rights to carry the new phone and that means that the Nexus One will only be available on AT&T and T-Mobile.

So LUXies, what do you think of this new move by Google? Does this new phone get you excited about your new 2010 phone options?
