While we all know different types of music have an effect on us, a recent study in The Journal of Positive Psychology concludes that upbeat music can actually improve your mood short-term and affect your overall wellbeing.
After conducting two different studies, researchers found that the participants that listened to only upbeat music over a two-week period had much higher levels of activity in the region of the brain associated with anticipating rewards. Scans of brain activity showed rushes of dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter in the brain’s pleasure center.
