New LUX Casual Wear Line: Merritt Charles

It’s a lazy Sunday morning and you’re relaxing, reading the Style section of the paper and sipping your espresso at your neighborhood coffee shop. You suddenly realize that you’re dressed like a bum. Your hair is doing this weird bird’s nest thing and your sweatpants from high school desperately need to be retired.

Your fix – Merritt Charles. Merritt Charles is a new Los Angeles based company that creates luxurious, fashionable casual wear that’s perfect for lazy Sundays or those more eventful Friday nights. The collection of shirts, tanks, dresses, sweaters and denim-like sweatpants are made of beautiful, quality Italian materials that feel as wonderful as they look. Imagine versatile wardrobe staples that can endure several seasons and that make you look effortless chic and sexy – interested much?

The brains behind the collection belong to Lacey Horning, whom about a year ago noticed a void in the marketplace for comfortable, sexy, detailed sweatpants that are also well-crafted. Inspired, she sought out to create a lifestyle line that embraced her Southern California beach lifestyle and her Northern California rancher style as well as her family’s quality and a healthy way of living. Merritt Charles was born and it is all about feeling great and looking fabulous.

With much of the idea based from Lacey’s family’s lifestyle, it seemed only natural to name the line after her grandfather Merritt Charles. The family name has been passed down to her father, brother and nephew. To further keep it in the family, each piece is also named after significant people in Lacey’s life, including her mom, sister and friends that have been supportive throughout the making of the collection. How sweet is that?

The collection of casual wear ranges from $75 for soft jersey tees and tanks to $245 for the cashmere sweaters. This spring, it will be available in 13 stores up and down the coast of Southern California, including Fred Segal in Santa Monica, the Pelican Hill Resort boutique, and various boutiques in Corona del Mar and Monarch beach.

What’s next for Merritt Charles? Lacey is already looking ahead to the next season and further expansion into other countries. Already in the pipeline are ideas for leggings and scarves to be added to the line. The fall/winter collection will also be more fashion forward and edgy but will still maintain its staple, classic feels. Looks like we’re going to have to make room in the closet for this fresh, new line.
