New Swarovski Holiday ‘Crystal Star’ Revealed for Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

With the holiday season quick on our heels, we’re starting to break out our traditional Christmas décor in preparation for the holiday festivities. Though, it seems this year one of New York’s iconic holiday traditions, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree crystal star, has been updated with some new eco-technology!

“We are pleased to once again partner with Swarovski to present New Yorkers and visitors alike with a magnificent symbol of the holidays at Rockefeller Center,” said Thomas Madden, Managing Director of Tishman Speyer. “The new elements to the star are sure to dazzle the millions who visit the iconic tree each year.”

The crystal tree topper has been a part of this holiday tradition since 2004 thanks to Swarovski Crystals; expect this year’s updated version to be even more LUX. The crystal jeweler has truly created a masterpiece by incorporating technology with a more energy efficient approach. Utilizing a cutting edge computerized lighting system as well as energy-efficient LED bulbs, this new crystal star has been brought into the 21st century in true high fashion.

The ‘crowned’ centerpiece has 12 crystal rays that are outfitted with 720 LED bulbs to ensure the dancing lights are able to twinkle in perfect sequence to this new timed computer system. Expect even more dazzle and shine with this year’s Swarovski’s star atop of the 76-foot high, 40-foot wide Norway Spruce.

“The redesign of the star exemplifies the Swarovski tradition of blending innovation with timeless elegance,” said Nadja Swarovski. “We are proud to continue to enhance the star’s beauty and to share our vision with visitors to Rockefeller Center from around the world.”

If you’d like to gain a closer glimpse of the magnificence of the design you can check out the exact replica on display at Rockefeller Center.

The 77th annual Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony will commence on December 2, 2009 from 7 pm to 9 pm EST.

If you’d like to own your own piece of Swarovski crystal holiday décor, a newly created holiday collection will also be available at the local NYC kiosk at Rockefeller Center as well as online through Swarovski.com.
