Oscars 2013: Red Carpet Trends

The 85th annual Academy Awards was nothing short of glamorous. The ladies of Hollywood lit up the red carpet in their gowns of volume, old-school glamour and luminosity. Stars arrived to celebrate Oscar and LA's biggest night of the year in shades of white, neutrals, golds and glimmer, and vibrant reds. These A-list ladies put their best fashion foot forward and set the trends for the year to come.

Neutrals

Nude, white and shades in-between were a color trend of the night; seen in structured, ethereal and strapless silhouettes. Amanda Seyfried dazzled in a custom organza gown with silver dragonfly embroidery by Alexander McQueen. Charlize Theron stole the show in a white hot Dior Haute Couture dress, while Zoe Saldana donned an edgier look in an Alexis Mabille Couture strapless gown, complete with petal details and dark scalloped bottom.

Pale Hues

Spring is almost in the air. Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence radiated in the feminine blush Dior Haute Couture and Chopard jewels which dangled down her back. Amy Adams glowed in lavender Oscar de la Renta with full train, and Anne Hathaway showed her natural beauty in a pink satin column gown by Prada.

Shimmer

The red carpet exuded old Hollywood glamour and nothing demonstrated this as well as the key trend of the night; shimmer. Jennifer Hudson beamed in a blue long sleeve Roberto Cavalli, Giuseppe Zanotti heels and Sutra jewelry, while Nicole Kidman stunned in a L’Wren Scott gown and Fred Leighton jewels. Kelly Osbourne sparkled her way about in a Tony Ward Couture gown.

Red

Contrasting the predominately neutral color palette of the red carpet, vibrant pops of red were popular. A veteran to the Oscars, Sally Field charmed in a long sleeved red Valentino Couture, a shade similar to Jennifer Aniston’s strapless Valentino. Olivia Munn stuck with the same hue, stunning in Marchesa with intricate gold embroidery, dramatic train and draping at the hips.

Gold

Embodying the essence and glitz of the evening, gold numbers stood out on the red carpet. Embracing the trend, Catherine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murad, Jessica Chastain in sequin mesh by Armani Privé, and Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera.

Favorite Moments of the Night

A few women stood out among the rest on the carpet with outstanding and noteworthy ensembles. Reese Witherspoon was stunning in blue Louis Vuitton, Naomi Watts brought attention in a futuristic Armani Privé and Stacy Keibler dazzled in a gorgeous Naeem Khan.
