Pre-Fall Runway Wrap: Part II

Featuring luxe fabrics and feminine details, the second half of Pre-Fall 2013 embraces menswear-inspired silhouettes. From animal prints to ruffles, the runways offer a little something for everyone. Read on for our ten favorite trends.

Animal Print

Animalistic prints for the season flaunt a fresh take on cheetah, leopard, zebra and cow. The trend’s high-contrast color combinations feature shades white paired with black or brown, while printed on pile fabrics and calf hair offer an authentic appearance.

Quilted

The craft of quilting gets an artisan feel through strategic placement and construction. Iconic quilted apparel like leather moto jackets are revamped with edgy shoulder and elbow reinforcements and contrast stitching to emphasize assembly and tactile interest.

Athletic

Athletic silhouettes this season take on luxe fabrics and sophisticated constructions. Featuring relaxed and roomy fits for comfort, the trend utilizes marled yarns and heathered knits to construct classic crewneck sweatshirts, drawstring sweats and taper-fit slacks.

Floral

Non-uniform prints give fall florals an unpredictable and artistic feel. Spring floral motifs are substituted with rich, earthy palettes of coffee, cream, rust and berry in dense and spread out print placements.

Minimalism

Minimalism heats up the runways with dusty shades and structured-fitting pieces. This fresh take on simplistic looks is seen within softened geometric shapes, flexible fabrics and simplistic design details like plackets or hidden pockets.

Plaid

Ranging from tattersal to Prince of Wales checks, menswear-inspired plaid gains momentum for Pre-Fall. Checks and boxes are featured in two-tone hues of grey, olive, navy and black. Fresh versions of the trend highlight print and blurred effects.

Sheer

Pre-Fall looks acquire a bit of sensuality through sheer panels. This fresh take on color-blocking showcases sheer lace to add texture, illusion necklines and cut-outs covered with thin, sheer fabrics.

Velvet

The runways maintained a regal look with plush velvet. Featured in rich jewel-tone colors, the subtle sheen combined with interesting textures of smooth draping and printed flowers give the signature style a modern twist.

Ruffles

Ruffles are added as a key detail for a feminine touch and whimsical feel. This playful addition gains body and volume within proper placements on the center front, hem, shoulders and arms. Ruffles create an elevated sense of romance in shades of pale pinks, nudes, white and brown.

Satin

The glossy fabric of satin holds an air of sophistication with a light, silky feel. This season, the polished material is heightened by the chic dimension of lemon yellow, icy blue hues, boxy fits and stiffer fabrics, while still maintaining fluidity.
