Ellen Himic Fall 2010 Collection
Ellen Himic has always had a hand in jewelry making. Starting at age 15 and later apprenticing for a renowned jeweler, her interest in the handcrafted art was no secret. However, her namesake collection and newest project, is only a few seasons young and has already received positive accolades by magazines such as People and InStyle and is often spotted on celebs on the streets of NYC.
Ellen told Ladylux, “I am so excited to be able to have full creative control with my own collection.”
Known for her ornate, architecturally inspired aesthetic, her jewelry is reminiscent of an heirloom or a piece of jewelry passed through European relatives. Each piece features beautifully detailed metal work, from the arches on a ring to delicately curved silver earrings and carefully places stones. Her Paja Pearl Necklace is beautiful in eggplant, changing colors in the light and offset by the sterling silver baubles. Each piece is truly cohesive in her Corinthian Collection for Fall 2010, using alternating shades of golds, amethysts and other neutrals in her classically cut settings.
My must-have? If you can only buy one thing, grab a pair of the Finial Briolette Earrings in gold and green amethyst. The flowers leading down to the drop are super chic and the style is so simple that it will always be in style.
It is no surprise that her jewelry brings patrons back to baroque Europe, she admits she does turn to the outside for inspiration. “So much of the historic architecture we preserve revolves around the ornate details in something as small as the frame of a window. I usually see a small detail or pattern that inspires me to re-create it through jewelry and enhance that beauty in a new way,” said Ellen.
This year the industry awarded her the 2010 Rising Star Award, proving that her years of hard work did not go unnoticed. No longer behind-the-scenes in the studio, Ellen Himic’s first solo collection has become a topic of conversation.
