Radar: Fern Mallis ditches IMG to go solo

The Daily reported today that Fern Mallis, the Senior VP of IMG, will step down to start her own consulting business, appropriately named Fern Mallis LLC. “The Fashion Show” judge earned her stellar reputation as the original organizer of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, an iconic event that IMG continues to produce every year at Bryant Park.

Interestingly enough, IMG will be her first client, so Mallis will continue to be connected to their fashion projects.

It’s easy to say that Mallis turned the fashion world upside down. In 1993, at the inception of fashion week, it was unheard of to have a European scale show in the United States. Now, New York has transformed into a style mecca, making fashion institutes flourish, and television shows like “Project Runway” be mega-hits. Other American cities, like Los Angeles, have since followed suit.

In a statement, Mallis told the press she was excited to embark on her solo venture and said, “It’s time for me to participate in the exciting world outside ‘the tents’.”
