Radar: Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

Ever since “Supersize Me” and “Fast Food Nation” hit theatres and local bookstores, the food crisis of America has been ever apparent. LadyLUX loves the message Jamie Oliver is sending out to our country in his new show, “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution”. It began as a mode of change. The TV chef wanted to find a way to get into homes, schools and communities and start looking at food in a whole new light. The ABC reality show looks like the perfect platform to get his message out to everyday people.

In the pilot, which premiered last Friday, Jamie headed to Huntington, West Virginia – also known as the “Unhealthiest City in America” to change the way kids viewed cafeteria food. No more pizza for breakfast or “potato-like” mashed potatoes, the British chef was ready to share with the schoolchildren his take on healthy eating. However, the task was harder than he thought. His first meal to plate was a roast chicken dish and unfortunately, the kids chose their stand-by pizza slice once again. It’s obvious that if they’re used to junk, it’s gonna take a little more transitioning to get a kid to chose fruit over cheetos. Even though he didn’t get kids to make the plunge, he was able to really turn around a Virginian family’s eating habits.

Jamie successfully helped the Edwards family by coming into their home and confronting their bad shopping tactics. Dinner usually consisted of fatty food made in a deep fryer and his tips made the Edwards rethink their grocery isles of choice. LadyLUX has hope that Jamie will encounter more success and transform the way Americans view food.

By clicking on the video above, you can take a look at Jamie Oliver’s TED acceptance speech. The TED prize goes out to individuals in technology, entertainment and design that have “One Wish To Change The World”. Jamie recently won the award due to his efforts with his new campaign on healthy eating.
