Radar: La Mer honors World Oceans Day

La Mer, the famous lotion maker, is teaming up with Oceana to protect our oceans. Although the company, which is connected to Jo Malone and Bobbi Brown, has been a proud sponsor of ocean protection and research for five years, they just recently decided to launch a special blue line of their “crème de la mer” to raise awareness for saving the sea, as well as contributing $200,000 to the ocean NGO for World Oceans Day.

January Jones, the star of “Mad Men” and a spokesperson for Oceana will shoot a promotional video in Belize to raise awareness about the frail coral reefs. She told Women’s Wear Daily, “Belize has the second-largest barrier reef in the world, but unfortunately, its corals are no longer in pristine condition due to overfishing, unregulated coastal development and bottom trawling”. She went on to say, “As people realize we have to do more to protect animals like sharks and sea turtles, it’s only natural to protect the places where they breed, feed and live.”

The short film will go live on June 8, World Oceans Day, along with the release of the limited edition Crème de la Mer in various Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores. The company, who uses sea kelp for their legendary lotion, hopes that people can show appreciation for their environment. Maureen Case, president of La Mer, Bobbi Brown and Jo Malone, holds a special spot for the cause. “I’m an avid diver, and I’ve seen both abundant, spectacular sea life and the damage that is being done,” she told WWD.

Although La Mer hopes customers are lathered up in their classic crème, they made a list of 10 handy tips to save our waters this summer. To stay up to date on their partnership, visit their web site at cremedelamer.com/oceana.
