Real Talk with Jessica Simpson in March Issue of Allure

We’ve all heard the phrase: ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’ Though, everyday we can find ourselves being bombarded by the ‘ideal’ and not the norm.

Societal norms for weight and beauty continue to influence what we often hold as the global standard. In the March issue of Allure, Jessica Simpson offers a refreshing perspective on the subject. Creating even more excitement for her up and coming show on VH1 called Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty.

In this new glimpse into her life she travels to different countries to demonstrate the complexity of beauty from many different viewpoints. What one culture and country defines as their idea of perfection can vary greatly from another! It was quite eye opening for the starlet.

“When I think of America, it’s very diverse, but we do have the cookie-cutter way we’re supposed to look, and going to all these countries, it’s so completely different. I was fascinated going on that journey to discover that, even just for myself. –An excerpt from the new show, by People.com.

The brief shots above, from the Allure photo shoot, demonstrate her captivating essence. It’s hard to believe that Simpson could ever face disagreement with her beauty, though just of late it seems that this has been the case. After having gone through such ridicule herself, simply with photos that fell into the wrong hands, she was inspired to create a new reality series to tackle this very subject.

Spending time in Asia was particularly eye-opening: “In a lot of Asian cultures, the whiter you are, the more beautiful you are—and what I’m so used to is ‘The tanner you are, the thinner you look, the skinnier you feel.”—says Jessica to People.com

So LUXies, what do you think of the subject of beauty? Do you believe that we’re in great need of an upgraded definition for beauty as connected to health?
