Resort 2013: Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci has softened up slightly since the Givenchy Fall 2012 collection of severe, edgy equestrian looks and boots, but “slightly” is the key word here. For Resort 2013, he relaxed with a gypsy theme inspired by an old photo of Hubert de Givenchy’s muse, Bettina. Tisci’s idea came to life with bright scarf prints that avoided the typical pretty, breezy sensibility.

Contrasted against blacks and whites, the presentation of oversize swirling paisleys found the sense of edge the brand is known for. Not skipping a beat, the skilled designer took a playful route with silhouettes, juxtaposing clean, sleek lines with volumed shapes. Prints were paired together in cape-like tops and mini skirts, tailored button-downs and slouchy sarouel pants with modern T-jackets. In between the prints, Tisci injected slick ensembles of black leather dresses, cape jackets and tops with dramatic tailcoats. Vibrant red appeared in monochrome looks as well as complementing pieces to the paisleys.

Never one to back down from aggressive footwear, Tisci completed the Resort looks with open-toe, lace-up ankle boots and knee-high styles. There were a few simpler options, including ankle strap sandals and open-toe loafer pumps, but prints and patterns always made their way to the collection’s footwear.

As reported by Style.com, the designer described the looks as “romantic, but with a sharpness,” perfectly capturing the Givenchy woman.
