Rodarte not eligible for ‘Black Swan’ costuming awards

In “Black Swan,” the beautiful costumes, such as the feather tutus and Swan Lake dresses, were half the magic of the film. According to British Vogue, however, the fashion designers can’t be recognized for their efforts.

Laura and Kate Mulleavy, the sisters behind Rodarte, were the costumers in the film and have received great acclaim for their dramatic designs, which captured the evocative spirit of “Black Swan.”

The costumes are up for a BAFTA award and Oscar nomination, but neither sister will collect the award should the two win. Instead, Amy Wescott will get the credit.

Since the sisters were not part of the Costume Designers Guild during the time of production, they cannot submit their names. Wescott was named the official designer for the film.
