March 20 at LAFW: SewDown

On March 20, Los Angeles Fashion Week will host “SewDown”, an event produced by designer Atousa G that will showcase indie emerging artists. Besides Atousa G’s own popular brand name, she’ll uncover chic new designers like Good Garbage and Kittenhawk, two socially minded labels that use recycled goods to construct their products.

Regarding this great opportunity for new talent, Atousa G told LadyLUX, “I started the event being a clothing designer and not being able to afford the $20,000 it takes to be at fashion week”. She went on to say, “We started this event to showcase up and coming designers that couldn’t afford to have their own fashion show.”

When the guests aren’t staring at conversation-starting pieces, they can jam to some tunes being turned by top DJs, such as Christian Martin, Jean Louis, Lillyanne, and DJ One11. Music is always a huge component of shows but SewDown will actually kick off with a live performance by United by Sound, revealing their true dedication and attention to new artists.

Peruse the space and enjoy avant-garde art. Graffiti inspired and modern mixed-media pieces from Michael Gomez Burton and Scott Powell are just some of the things you’ll see adorning SewDown’s walls, creating an intimate environment that connects you to the creativity, “We wanted to set up an atmosphere where you could actually talk to the designer, meet the designer, buy their products…” said Atousa G.

The day will be a great opportunity to walk away with swag, featuring tons of samples at reduced prices. There will be an array of vendors from pop art jewelry by Minx to Rock ‘Em’s vintage inspired eyewear. Plus, there’s a good chance you can’t find these goods anywhere else. The producer pointed out, “It’s a chance to support local designers and artists without the middleman”.

The Los Angeles Times said SewDown is “where up and coming designers up and come” and it’s clear that Atousa G’s friendly approach to fashion shows is paying off big time for her 10th SewDown event. Whether you’re a creative artist or simply an admirer, LadyLUX thinks LA readers should definitely hitch a ride to the festivities.

SewDown will take place on Saturday night from 8pm to 2am, at Lot 613 in Downtown Los Angeles. For tickets and more information, check out their website at www.sewdown.com.
