Shoplight: Karine Sultan in Los Angeles

Karine Sultan, a French jewelry designer, has just celebrated the one-month anniversary of her Los Angeles storefront. Hailing from Paris, Sultan creates one-of-a-kind, art-deco inspired pieces—from earrings and cuffs, to necklaces and rings—at totally LUX-o’nomic prices.

Her Los Angeles store opened last month on June 15 and is located at 8040 West Third Street.

Instead of opting for a vintage store, try Sultan’s shop for the same feel. Browsing through her long wall of chunky gold earrings, embellished with onyx and crystals, the shopper can easily reminisce to a childhood going through similar treasures in their mothers’ jewelry boxes.

Ranging from the reasonable $25 to $149, making a statement has never been so easy on the wallet.

Sultan definitely has a very distinct, artistic aesthetic. When probed about her inspiration, Sultan replied,

“My design is a reflection of what I feel and experience. It might start with a simple bracelet that anybody could find anywhere. After spending some time just looking at objects, clothes, or even people surrounding me, I turn my inspiration into shape.”

One wonders why Sultan would run from Paris, home of the impeccably styled, but she contests that Los Angeles has a style reputation of its own.

“The beautiful and interesting architecture, the culture and most importantly the people of the west coast, have definitely influenced my design style” said Sultan.
