Sissai: Peruvian Roots, Modern Expression

For Sissai, every piece of jewelry is like a little piece of art. The two sisters who founded the brand, Pamela and Ximena Ceballos, hail from Peru, and the country’s incredible tradition of craftsmanship shows in each piece – with a modern twist.

“We offer a modern and strong point of view, using the long tradition of craftsmanship that Peruvian artisans have,” Ximena said. “It´s really interesting to bring some new elements to the market and to give our customers the opportunity to express something different through jewelry.”
Ximena believes the ultimate accessory is “powerful, has personality and defines the look by itself.” This is true of Sissai, whose unique jewelry is simultaneously feminine and strong.

“Our designs are inspired by life itself, giving them a dramatic look, making pieces that stand out for their unique character and personality,” Ximena said.

Sissai was initially born as a hobby, when the duo starting studying jewelry for fun. Pamela came from a background in marketing and Ximena was studying psychology. Jewelry just came naturally. A few trips later, the sisters wanted to turn their fun into something bigger. The label launched in Peru in 2011.

“We always had an artistic spirit and when we started studying jewelry lots of ideas came out … I think we discovered our true essence,” the designer said.

Sissai Modern Peruvian Jewelry

True to its roots, the brand’s name “sissai” is inspired by “sisay,” a word the means blossom in Quechua, a language of the Inca empire that is spoken today in the Andes. The collection shows its Peruvian heritage in each item, with the line becoming a universal language, mixing history with contemporary concepts.

The sisters’ latest collection focuses on pyrite, a semiprecious stone with a fantastic story that matches perfectly with the line’s concept of strength. Thus far, it has been well received, even scoring a mention in the pages of Vogue.

Jewelry, says Ximena, is incredibly personal. It can express your personality or your mood in wearing a piece on a particular day. When you want a special present for a loved one, you often buy jewelry.

“We love that we can share our point of view and we can influence and inspire at the same time,” the designer declared. “It´s amazing to create new things starting from an idea or a feeling. We love to see how our concepts come to life in a beautiful way.”

The design team looks to balance the femininity and modernity of each piece, transmuting a woman’s strength in a minimalist and geometric manner. All of their designs are made by hand in sterling silver and natural stones. As a result, their jewelry is known for its personality and uniqueness.

As part of bringing the brand into the international limelight, Sissai will be exhibiting this weekend at a trade show sponsored by the Jewelers' Circular Keystone, the jewelry industry's top trade publication and jewelry industry authority. Held in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino from May 31 to June 3, JCK Las Vegas is the most comprehensive jewelry gathering in the United States. While Sissai has presented at events in major cities such as London, Copenhagen and Lima, this is the first time the brand has shown in the United States. Check it out at booth S10107.
