Skagen Denmark: a Danish sensation
The demand for accessories is an insatiable one. Consumers are always happy to pick up the next great watch, pair of sunglasses, or, especially when it comes to women, next great pair of earrings. One can, it seems, never have too much.
Skagen Denmark, the Danish company who makes watches, sunglasses, jewelry, and clocks, has hit a vein and happy to have done so. Named for the northern coastal town in its home country, the company is putting Danes on the map—and it’s about time. Skagen fashions pieces for both men and women, and there is hardly an item in both collections that one wouldn’t want to wear.
The Spring/Summer 2010 collection is all about delicacy. Think whispy beach grass, sand, sky, the wind whipping through one’s hair. The Danish coastline inspired, and the designers answered. Aptly called “love blossoms”, there are pink watches with delicate straps, silver metallic watches with thin chain-like straps with a barely visible blue or pink face, a woman’s silver watch with a bubble-like strap, or a more traditional thicker linked strap. The men’s summer pieces are heftier—as is the case for the male gender—but not overly so. Thicker black and brown straps give way gently to a silver face with gently tinted blue or pink faces. A bolder gray watch takes a black face for the carbon fiber collection. As for the jewelry, the “Love Blossoms” collection has as its elements hearts, swirls, and flowers, all hanging from rope-like chains.
For Fall/Winter 2011, bold statements seem de rigeur. The timepiece collection is aptly entitled, “Performance Driven” and is just that: Made for speed, embodying strength, sleek design, and fashioned from lightweight titanium. It emphasizes the Danes passion to succeed and the secret to their success: Hard work. How simple they make it all seem.
Urban detailing is evident in the 809XLTTM with its signature mesh band and lightweight oversized titanium case. The perforated leather strap of the 806XLTTM gives it sporty styling. The Skagen Granite collection continues the thread and brings in the sophisticated elements for professionals to add to their wardrobe, as in the 430SMXM with its stainless steel link band and its shiny stainless steel case, and the 380XSMMM1, with its mesh band with a striped pattern and shiny stainless steel case. Both are made with CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski elements, just the finishing touch The Platinum Collection involves the elements of silver, copper, gold and platinum in timepieces that reflect the brand’s minimalist yet distinctive approach. The Architect and Executive Collections put forth added sophistication, and provide pieces that anyone would want to add to their wardrobe. There is the Freshwater Pearl collection of jewelry, a timeless favorite for women, and the Charlotte Collection, where modern minimalism blends with sleek sophistication. There are the sunglasses, cooler than cool shades that contain Swarovski embellishments as well. Skaden’s clocks come in round or square shapes and embody the same sleek design as do so many other pieces in the collections.
