Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear: Skirts

As much as we love our fur coats, thigh-high boots, scarves and hats - the minute the sun starts to warm up, we want to shed our outer layers and show some skin. Luckily, in Spring 2010, we’ve got options.

Full Skirts

Still hot from the last spring, full and voluminous skirts move forward into fresh metallics and prints. These ladylike skirts get a little flirtier this time around with shorter lengths, hitting just above the knee and a lower (non-suffocating) waistline. Imagine breezy days in a full skirt with a fitted top… dressed up or casual chic, this one is a Spring wardrobe staple.

A-Line

The perfect office appropriate skirt returns on the runway and focuses on structure. The classic A-line skirt is looking sophisticated in geometric patterns, organza and stiff materials to maintain the perfect silhouette. Narrow at the waistline and flaring out to form the letter A, this skirt works well with any body type.

Volume Skirts

Bigger is always better, especially when we’re talking skirts. Volume skirts utilize girly ruffle/tiered trends and gather, draping techniques. Layers and tiers continue this season but not just in the traditional three-tier layers. Designers get creative using tiers in staggering levels or in disarray. Large, vivid ruffles give skirts a dramatic and 3-D effect. Draping and gathering offer more textural interest and bubble shapes. Volume skirts were styled on the runway in girly and rocker attitudes.

Mini

If you’ve got it, flaunt it in a mini. Micro-minis are shown in different knits, prints and patterns but always slim and super short. And if you’ve quasi-got it or just shy, pair with tights for a lean, mean look.

Body Con

Luckily, you have all winter to get in shape for the body conscientious skirt. Unfortunately, that means less fireplace cuddles and more cardio. From dresses to skirts, the body con bandage wrap style makes its mark hugging hips and bums. In perfect form-fitting manner, horizontal and diagonal elastic strips create sexy above-the-knee skirts in lux and casual materials, perfect for day or night.
