Sundance Film Festival 2013: Most Buzzed-About Fashion and Films

The Sundance Film Festival, held in Park City, Utah, is known as one of the largest and most prestigious independent film festivals in the country. It is also known as a break from the glitz and glam of awards season as stars opt for casual wear that showcases more of their personal style. As many parts of the country brace for more snow this week, these actresses demonstrate how to bundle up for the cold and still look as fashionable as ever. Read on for details and some of the most buzzed-about films from the festival.

Jessica Biel looked casual, chic and cozy at the premiere of her film, “Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes.” The actress glittered in an Oscar de la Renta sweater, black J brand jeans and knee-high leather boots. Flawless ombre hair and clean make-up finished off the look.

Rooney Mara rocked several oversized coats over the course of the festival and this androgynous look in an olive hue is one of the best. Underneath, she chose the Rag and Bone Deacon boots, black pants and a slightly cropped black top for the teeniest hint of skin.

Kate Bosworth went 60s high fashion with a Calvin Klein Pre-Fall 2013 ensemble for her premiere of “Big Sur.” The bold look featured a sleeveless calf-hair tank over a white turtleneck with a caramel leather skirt. She accessorized with a white belt and chunky, mod white boots, and chose slicked back hair with a deep side part.

Not quite as daring, but still a great look, Amanda Seyfried went for the classic skinnies-and-blazer combo. She’s wearing black J brand jeans, Marni sweater, Michael Kors jacket and black heeled boots.

Nicole Kidman donned head-to-toe Bottega Veneta to attend the premiere of “Stoker” at the festival. She looked impeccably classy in the structured, double-breasted coat from the designer’s Fall 2012 collection paired with blush pumps. Soft waves and emerald drop earrings provided the final touches.

Evan Rachel Wood chose an all-black ensemble featuring the Helmut Lang Crux wool leather sleeve blazer. Paired with knee-high boots and tousled hair, the newly pregnant star achieves an edgy, sleek look.

Besides the great fashion, the festival presented many films that people will be talking about in 2013. Here are some of the most anticipated picks that should be on your cultural radar.

jOBS

Ashton Kutcher achieves an uncanny transformation into Steve Jobs in this film depicting the famed Apple CEO’s journey, from his unlikely beginnings in his parents’ garage to building the technology and the company that would transform the way we live.

Lovelace

This movie tells the story behind the cultural phenomenon that was “Deep Throat,” the first pornographic movie to be embraced by mainstream audiences in an age before internet porn. Amanda Seyfried stars as Linda Lovelace, the beautiful girl-next-door who fled her strictly religious family to embrace her new identity as international sex icon and a relationship with the charismatic hustler, Chuck Traynor.

Don Jon’s Addiction

Sundance favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes his directorial debut with another sexy pick also featuring Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore. Starring as Jon Martello, Gordon-Levitt’s character sleeps with the hottest women in town, but is revealed to be utterly alone. Seeking a more gratifying connection, he ends up learning larger lessons of life and love through relationships with two very different women.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints

Starring Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck, this drama relates the story of Bob Muldoon and Ruth Guthrie, an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree who are finally apprehended after a shootout in the Texas hills. Bob takes the blame and is sent to prison, only to escape four years later and set out to find his wife and daughter, who was born during his incarceration. According to reviewers, this film delivers a poetic, powerful experience rich with tension, romance and loss.
