The best of Fall 2012 footwear

Fall 2012 has been a captivating season with numerous must-have trends to get excited about. Now, LadyLUX highlights some of the most spectacular shoes of the season. As lust-worthy as they are, they may not exactly be everyday-work-and-errand types (or maybe they are) but there’s still a trend lesson to be learned! Get inspired by the fancy footwear and fuse the ideas into your wardrobe or make a statement with the real deal.

While simplicity was key this season, that doesn’t mean fur and opulence were out. In fact, fur and even feathers made their way onto sandals and pumps in vivid colors and ombré styles. Alexander McQueen’s heel-less wedge was striking with a mohawk fur embellishment on the straps, while Christian Louboutin created a more subtle effect on the counter of a d’orsay ankle strap pump. Casadei dip-dyed the fur shaft of a wedge boot and Diego Dolcini gave a sexy sandal’s feather ankle adornment the same treatment.

Fancy for Dolce & Gabanna was the idea of cake. The platform sandal may have a simple ankle and vamp strap but was inspired by the traditional Italian cake complete with little decorative roses. Instead of sweet desserts, Balmain embraced opulence with embroidered Fabergé egg-style beadwork of thousands of pearls and crystals on a Western-influenced boot silhouette. Whole-heartedly soaking in a Western theme was Isabel Marant’s over-the-ankle wide shaft booties with an overlaid stitching design. Footwear from the Wild West will be a major trend for the Fall.

Single sole sandals are becoming more popular and in Givenchy’s understated leopard, the combination will surely be sought after.

Ankle booties and knee-high boots will undoubtedly be a staple, but designers also played with the usual shapes and materials. Chanel gave the bootie a cutout, capped toe and even added some crystals on the heel for a cool effect. Versace’s knee-high boot exuded a sporty edginess with mesh fabrication and a faceted heel.

Continuing its strength for yet another season, the platform wedge appeared in pumps, boots and strappy incarnations. Designers including Casadei and Diego Dolcini didn’t veer away from the architectural possibilities of the style. Diego Dolcini crafted a sky-high shortened wedge complete with a complex colorblock cutout upper. Casadei’s version gave the towering streamline heel a slight notch and trimmed the pump’s overlay pattern with intense contrasting neon piping.

Pumps were also seen in more grounded single sole styles. Gianvito Rossi maintained the traditional silhouette of a pointed toe and stiletto heel but gave it a modern twist in a mirrored metallic offset with a black trimmed topline. Celine also presented a metallic pump but in brilliant gold. While the style was also a single sole, the heel was a sturdy demi-wedge that offered a forward appeal. Still standing tall on platforms, Charlotte Olympia carried the brand’s signature peep-toe into Fall but jazzed it up with an animal print and playful tassel. Louis Vuitton’s extreme mary jane boasted a trifecta of straps, a capped toe, metallic heel and overlasted platform on a squared off toe shape. With all that glitters, it certainly isn’t for the shy.
