The Strut Report: Valentino Fall Couture 2011

The Valentino 2011 Fall Couture show evoked a perfect combination of royalty and romance. Having taken over designing for Valentino two years ago, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Picciolo left an incredible impression this season by creating a couture line to die for, reported Telegraph UK. The entire new Valentino collection is fit for a modern-day princess.

Three different basic styles were presented, each bringing a different ambiance to the show. Inspired by Russian aristocratic émigrés, the designers chose luxurious materials and high necklines. The show began with a bronze floor-length gown in a unique zigzag pattern. It was followed by a series of dresses made of sheer, sensual fabrics in nude colors with gold embellishments. Each sparkling look exuded an ethereal feeling as the models strutted down the runway.

The next style was dramatic yet romantic. The designers used soft, black velvet to craft both long and short dresses. The high necklines, long sleeves, clean lines and cutouts added modest but modern touches. Paired with ankle-strap black pumps and black clutches, the dresses boasted subtle golden accents that made them shine.

The final Valentino style featured light colors and airy fabrics. The stunning shades chosen, such as a gray ombre dress, were very pleasing to the eye and made the show flow with ease. Chantilly lace added femininity and a youthful feeling to the line. A few more structured pieces, such as brocade suit separates, were added to the mix and combined with matching nude heels to keep the looks young and fresh.

Most of the dresses covered the models’ entire body, exposing only the face, neck and lower legs. But the few dresses with low necklines remained tasteful. To focus the attention on the dresses, the designers chose to keep the models’ make-up minimal and their hair pulled back into loosely braided buns. As they came down the runway wearing thin, golden flower crowns, each model looked magical. Throughout the show, there was no denying that the entire Valentino Couture line was the epitome of modern elegance.
