Tokyo Fashion Week 2013: 5 Designer Standouts

As fashion week frenzy continues, we make our way to Tokyo for a daring and colorful showing of Japanese runway trends for Autumn/Winter 2013-2014. Read on to see five designers we’re inspired by from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo.

Araisara

Inspired by the culture, scenery, natural surroundings and spirit of the Orient, the Araisara collection by designer Sara Arai featured strong outerwear pieces and black numbers in various fabrics and textures. The unexpected standout pieces of the show boasted an orange floral print on a floor-grazing gown and bustier top.

Motonari Ono

Incorporating interior furnishings and menswear influences, Motonari Ono used checked fabrics and heavy floral jacquards for fitted skirts and jackets in his Fall collection. Staying true to his signature aesthetic, feminine details such as lace, peplums and ruffles appeared in dresses, pencil skirts and blouses. Velour tuxedo jackets and leather added a modern edge.

Han Ahn Soon

Sticking to her traditional concept of feminine styles with elegance and passion, designer Ahn soon Han took to the runway with strong colors and fabric combinations including leather, fur and knits. Featuring bold colorblocking and stripes, coats and heavy outerwear proved to be the heart of the A/W 2013-2014 collection.

Et Momonakia

Design duo Joga Naoto and Tamaki Hiroto created a lighthearted presentation beginning with a series of tartan plaid dresses before moving into a series of ladylike looks. The Et Momonakia show presented colorblocking, animal prints and loud fur numbers that stole the show.

Yasutoshi Ezumi

Founded by designer Shun Tai Esumi, fashion brand Yasutoshi Ezumi delivered a mix of knitwear and tailored pieces for Fall. Layering combined with jacket and vest variations took center stage in addition to dramatic embroidery and voluminous proportions. Floral jacquard numbers were also a standout.
