‘Bags for the People’ is a non-profit organization that provides a sustainable alternative to plastic bags. We use all repurposed materials and give our bags out for FREE. We also perform community building workshops and events to not only get people to make the switch from plastic to re-usable, but to inspire people to take an active and creative role in life. –via their website
Their principles teach you how to easily convert your old T-shirt into a bag with simple steps that anyone can manage to do!! Providing you the opportunity to repurpose something that has meaning, all while you affect positive change for our shared planet. By making your own grocery bag you reduce the use of a one-time plastic bag and also save your ol’ attire from taking up empty space in your closet or in a landfill!!
One simple process you can implement:
1. Select your FAV T-shirt
2. Sew up the bottom of the shirt
3. Cut off the sleeves
4. There you have it a reusable bag with handles (the previous sleeves)
